About six hectares of pergola-trained Prié Blanc in the hamlet of La Ruine between Morgex and La Salle, at roughly 1,000 to 1,200 metres near Mont Blanc — among the highest vineyards in Europe, growing on ungrafted, pre-phylloxera rootstock the isolation preserved.

History

Ermes Pavese began marketing his family's Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle in 1999 on the advice of Marziano Vevey, working the native Prié Blanc, one of Italy's oldest documented cultivars. From an initial two hectares he assembled scattered high-altitude parcels around Morgex and La Salle to about six hectares. Because the vines sit so high and isolated, they survived phylloxera on their original rootstock, making the vineyard a rare pre-phylloxera survivor.
