History
Benanti is the archetype of modern Etna wine. Giuseppe Benanti founded the estate in 1988 and, after scores of experimental micro-vinifications, released his first commercial wines in 1990. His Pietramarina, from old-vine Carricante at Milo, showed the world the greatness of Etna whites and helped spark the volcano's wine renaissance; in 2007 it was the first Etna wine to win Gambero Rosso's Tre Bicchieri, the same year Benanti was named Italian Winery of the Year.
