History
The Frescobaldi family has been a protagonist of Florentine life for a thousand years and a maker of wine for about seven centuries; Renaissance artists such as Donatello bought the wines of Nipozzano. In 1855 the family was among the first in Tuscany to plant Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Nero and Chardonnay at Nipozzano and Pomino, the latter part of the 1716 grand-ducal classification that predated the French and Italian appellation systems. Today its estates span Chianti Rufina, Pomino and Brunello di Montalcino.
