History
Marco de Bartoli founded his estate in 1978 in Contrada Samperi outside Marsala with a contrarian mission: to recover the original unfortified vino perpetuo that pre-dated the British fortification of Marsala. His Vecchio Samperi, a solera-aged unfortified Grillo, became a benchmark; in the 1980s he extended to Pantelleria for the Bukkuram Passito. After his death in 2011 his children carried on his exacting standards.
