History
Donnafugata was founded in 1983 by Giacomo Rallo, a fourth-generation member of a Marsala wine family established in 1851, together with his wife Gabriella, a pioneer of quality viticulture. The name comes from Il Gattopardo, Tomasi di Lampedusa's novel set in the Contessa Entellina hills where the first vineyards lay. From Marsala the estate spread across the island to Pantelleria, Vittoria and Etna, becoming one of Sicily's leading quality producers, famous for the Passito di Pantelleria Ben Ryé and the Contessa Entellina red Mille e una Notte.
