History
Carlo Hauner, a designer from Brescia, first came to the Aeolian Islands in 1963 and settled on Salina in 1970, where he fell for the local Malvasia. Rebuilding abandoned terraces and studying old and new methods, he revived Malvasia delle Lipari, the islands' honeyed passito made from sun-dried grapes, and his success sparked a renaissance that brought many island growers back to their vines. Hauner remains the reference name for the wine.
